History

Fiesta Noche del Rio

The Alamo Kiwanis Club Charities, Inc. has been producing the show continuously since 1957, when it was asked by the San Antonio City Council to stimulate interest on the River Walk. It joined with "San Antonio's First Lady of Song" – the late Rosita Fernandez – who was looking for a venue through which to showcase local talent.

Today Rosita's vision continues under the leadership of Elizabeth Sanchez-Lopez who now serves as the director, choreographer and lead female singer. A respected dance artist and educator, Lisa was instrumental in the opening of the city's two major theme parks – Sea World of Texas and Fiesta Texas – as a performer, choreographer and dance consultant. She has played the role of Diana Morales in A Chorus Line, has choreographed the Miss Pan American Pageant, Miss Stock Show and Rodeo, and was dance coordinator for the 1994 Olympic Festival. She currently serves as the fine arts specialist for Northside Independent School District.

In 2012, Lisa was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame for her local contributions to the arts and education.
